False prophets, false teachers have been claiming for centuries that they are the Christ, others have falsely predicted the date of Jesus return to earth, and many who do not know the Word of God for themselves have been misled and even died as a result of false teaching.
Regarding Jesus second coming much has been written in Scripture. Jesus said in Matthew 24:30-31,36; "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds,from one end of the sky to the other. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone." Pay no attention when someone gives a date of the return of Christ, they don't know that they are deceived.
God wants His children to know what is going to happen before it does so that we may know that He alone is God! He wants us to know so that when certain things start happening we can know that Jesus Christ could come at any moment and we are to be ready. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words."
Scripture gives us warnings about things to watch for as in 2 Timothy 3:1-5; "But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Holding to a form of godliness although they have denied its power. Avoid such men as these."
We are to be watchful, we are to be patient. James 5:7-8; "Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it until it gets the early and late rains. You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near."
In the last days people will mock believers and say when is He going to come? Nothing has changed He will never come. But Scripture says in 2 Peter 3:9-10,14-15; "The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless."
1 John 4:1-4; "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."
"And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life." 1 John 5:11-12.
